ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) was established in the year 2012 with an intake of 60 students and affiliated to Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad, Hyderabad. The department is supported by experienced faculty and has full-fledged laboratories to meet the demands of present day scenario. Unlike the regular curriculum, department of EEE provides more practical exposure beyond the syllabus deliberated from II year onwards. The main aim of the Electrical and Electronic Engineering program is to develop enterprising professionals who have an innovative disposition, the confidence and abilities to assume leadership roles in technology, business and the community. The program is designed to give the skills essential for graduate engineers to become immediately employable in the global competitive environment. Department provides sufficient training with industry oriented people with hands on experience which help them to have an edge over others in this competitive world where science and technology are moving in a galloping pace. Presently department is headed by Dr.Ch.Sunil Kumar, M.Tech, Ph.D, MISTE. His research areas of interest are Electrical Power Systems, Deregulation, Electrical machines and magnetic fields

MINDTREE

LABORATORIES

Department established full-fledged state of the art laboratories on par with the regular curriculum to promote more practical knowledge.

Electric Circuits and Simulation Laboratory:

This Lab is related to Electric Circuits and simulation of electrical circuits using computer software. Most of the concepts what they have gone through in theory, will be implemented practically here. In order to analyze the circuits better, faculty are training the students to work for various case studies.

Course Objectives

The objective of this laboratory is to impart hands on experience in the design and implementation of basic circuits.

Students learn how to do

  • Verification of circuit laws and theorems
  • measurement of circuit parameters
  • study of circuit characteristics using PSPICE

Course Outcomes

At the successful completion of this course, the student is expected to gain the following skills:

  • Become familiar with the basic circuit components and know how to connect them to make a real electrical circuit;
  • Become familiar with basic electrical measurement instruments and know how to use them to make different types of measurements;
  • Be able to verify the laws and principles of electrical circuits, understand the relationships and differences between theory and practice;
  • Be able to gain practical experience related to electrical circuits, stimulate more interest and motivation for further studies of electrical circuits
  • Be able to use the software like PSPICE and Multisim for the design of basic circuits.
  • Be able to carefully and thoroughly document and analyze experimental work.

Electrical Machines Laboratory:

This Lab is related to Electrical Machines. In this lab students will perform various experiments on various types of motors and generators and analyze the performance and characteristics. This helps the students to develop in depth knowledge on the behavior of electrical machines.

Course Objectives

  • Electrical Machines Lab enables the students to perform experiments on DC and AC machines.
  • It encourages the students to troubleshoot the system in organized and established manner.
  • This lab gives the students the first hand chance to get familiar with basic machines which will be useful in power systems and power electronics courses.  Besides, the lab instills in the students the awareness and practice of safety.

Course Outcomes

  • prepare theoretically and practically laboratory experiments
  • carry out laboratory experiments on electrical machines
  • present experiment results in a written report
  • Analyze possible causes of discrepancy in comparison to theory.

Control Systems Lab:

This laboratory provides students with a test bed to learn and practice fundamental concepts of control systems. Third year 2nd semester students attend this lab which presents facilities for the deep understanding of the concepts which they learn in the theory in the previous semester. Students do both hardware and simulation experiments in this lab.

The curriculum objectives are:

• To verify the control actions in closed loop systems.

• To check the stability conditions of closed loop systems by different methods, using software.

Course Outcomes

  • Students will demonstrate the ability to apply what they have learned theoretically in the field of control engineering using both hardware and software.
  • Students will demonstrate the ability to apply Laplace transform, transfer functions, modeling RLC circuit
  • Students will know to compare and verify the Time domain specifications
  • Students will learn to analyse the stability of any closed loop circuit using MATLAB.

Power Electronics Lab:

The power electronics lab is a part of 3rd year 2nd semester curriculum for EEE students. This lab provides better understanding of the concepts which the students learnt in the previous semester. Implementation of power electronics circuits both in hardware and software is done in this lab.

The curriculum objectives are:

  • To rig up circuits for various applications in power electronics
  • To understand the operation of different types of power controllers

Course Outcomes

  • A knowledge of analysis, design and experimentation of various power electronics circuits
  • Verification by using the MATLAB and PSPICE softwares.

Electrical Measurements Lab:

Now a day Electrical Energy plays an important role in our day to day life. In a power system the load changes are very imminent, so according to load the quantity of power supply should change from time to time. The significance of the Electrical Measurements Lab is renowned in the various fields of engineering applications. For an Electrical Engineer, it is obligatory to have the practical ideas about the Electrical Measurements. Electrical measurements deal with the measurement of stability and working standards of the meter, this includes the knowledge of utilization and control of electrical energy.

Course objectives

The main objectives of this lab courses are

  • To expose the students to different types of electrical measuring instruments.
  • To make the students understand how to use these instruments are used for measuring an unknown quantity.
  • To calibrate & test different types of electrical measuring instruments & transducers.
  • To learn the use of bridges for R, L and C measurement.

 

Course outcomes

The students will be able to

  • Identify the parts of measuring instruments and select a suitable measuring instrument for measurement of ac/dc electrical quantity.
  • Differentiate between MI, MC and electrostatic instruments.
  • Use of instrument transformers used during measurement of current and voltages.
  • Design and calculate the resistance, inductance and capacitance by using potentiometers, bridges.

  • Jyothi, E. Sushmitha, P. Sai lalitha and V. Mounika reddy of III EEE exhibited a project “33kV/11kV Sub Station Model” at “TECHSONANCE 2015” at Osmania University College of Engineering, Hyderabad during 6th and 7th March 2015 and won II Prize.
  • The project ‘Indian Map Identification for Blind’ which was done by Sadhvi Reddy, G. Sravanthi, B. Shivani and K. Mounika of III EEE got selected for ‘Hygea-15’ organized by NOVOTEL. The project should be exhibited in the event which is conducted on 11th and 12th of March 2015.
  • Ramya and P. Swathi of II EEE exhibited a project “Portable Game Notation” in “PROMETHEAN 2K15” organized by BVRIT, Narsapur (under CSE Dept.) during 18th and 19h March 2015 and won II Prize.

 

  • Manoghna & V. Meghana of II EEE has participated in project exhibition titled “Home Security System using GSM Modem” in ADASTRA at SNIST on March 19th 2015 and secured IInd Prize.
  • Tejavathi & M. Swathi of III EEE presented a paper titled “The Intriguing Concepts of Wireless Electricity and Power Transmission” in YANTHROSTHAV 2K15 at Narsimha reddy Engineering College, Hyderabad during March 1st & 2nd 2015 and won Ist Prize.

2016 – 17

  • 33 Out of 60 eligible students of 2013 batch got placed in different companies in the first semester
  • Umashankari, III EEE student (2014 Batch) presented a paper on the topic ‘Nuclear Power in India-challenges and Future direction’ and attended the awareness program on nuclear energy, in BARC, Mumbai. in the 28th DAE , All India Essay contest, which was held from 20-10-16 to 28-10-16.

Guest Lectures

  • As a part of Engineers’ Day celebration, EEE department had organized a Guest Lecture on ‘Micro-Electro Mechanical Systems (MEMS)’ by Dr. Siva Rama Krishna from IIITH on 16/9/16.
  • Guest Lecture was arranged by EEE Department on the topic ‘Solar Photovoltaic – Trends and Technologies’ by Col.T.S.Surendra, Professor Emeritus, BITS Hyderabad on 5th October 2015.
  • On the occasion of Engineers Day, ie., on 15th September 2015, a guest lecture was conducted on the topic “Renewable Energy based LED Lighting for the developing world”  by Dave Irvin-Halliday, Emeritus Professor of University of Calgary, Canada.
