Laboratories

The laboratories in the department of Electronics and Communication Engineering are designed to provide students with hands-on experience. Laboratories assist students to analyse practical aspects of various courses. The department has well-equipped laboratories with all the necessary hardware and software to conduct various laboratory courses prescribed in curriculum and beyond. A standard procedure is followed for smooth conduction of laboratory sessions which includes etiquettes.

Electronics Lab – I has a setup of 12 benches that can accommodate 36 students. It has equipment such as CROs, Function generators, Analog and Digital ICs, etc. to conduct experiments related to basic analog and digital electronic circuits and IC applications. Students will be trained to design and analyze simple circuits on bread board/trainer kits with various active and passive components and ICs.

IC Applications Lab

Electronics Lab – II has a setup of 12 benches that can accommodate 36 students. It has equipment such as CROs, Function generators, etc. to conduct experiments related to basic electronic circuits. Students will study basic electronic components, analyze characteristics of different electronic devices such as diodes, Bipolar Junction Transistors (BJTs) and Field-Effect Transistors (FETs) and design simple circuits like rectifiers, amplifiers and oscillators. Students will utilize the lab to design and verify hobby, major projects involving electronic circuits.

Electronics Lab – III has a setup of 12 benches and can accommodate 36 students. This lab is equipped with 74 series digital ICs of logic gates and various combinational and sequential MSI ICs. This Lab facilitates the students to implement different Boolean expressions using digital ICs. And also students will attain knowledge in designing Digital Systems by performing different Combinational and Sequential circuits’ related experiments.

Communications Lab has a setup of 12 benches that can accommodate 36 students with all necessary trainer kits, microwave devices and equipment, spectrum analyzer, etc. There is a 6 bench set up for conducting experiments related to microwave devices and circuits. And also students can analyze various analog and digital modulation and demodulation techniques. Characteristics of optical devices, data transmission, etc. are also analyzed in this laboratory.

The Simulation Lab – I is an exciting space for the students to simulate concepts in various courses like Signals and Systems, Probability Theory and Stochastic Processes, Digital Signal Processing, Communications, Digital Image Processing, Electronic Circuit Analysis etc. This computer lab is installed with MATLAB & Simulink (Campus Wide License), Multisim, Code Composer Studio, and SCILAB. The students will be able to analyse electronic circuits using Multisim which is an industry standard SPICE simulation and circuit design software. Using Code Composer Studio, students can implement various real-time signal processing algorithms in hardware using TMS302C6745 Digital Signal Processors. With wide range of product capabilities of MATLAB like programming, data analysis, able to connect to hardware, real-time simulation and testing, application building, able to run in cloud environments etc. This lab space can also be used by the students for developing various algorithms and execute a variety of projects in various fields of engineering.

The Simulation Lab – II is equipped with 36 systems and the following software and hardware

  • Xilinx Vivado Design Suite
  • Mentor Graphics HEP 1 Tools
  • Keil Microvision Tools
  • MASM
  • FPGA Kits
  • 8086 and 8051 interfacing Kits, etc.

Students can write and verify assembly language programs for 8086 microprocessor and 8051 microcontroller using MASM and Keil Microvision software respectively. Students will be trained in both VLSI frontend and backend design. Xilinx Vivado tools are used for VLSI front end design and Mentor Graphics HEP 1 tools are used for backend design.
