Society of Women Engineers - A global STEM community

What is SWE?
SWE stands for the Society of Women Engineers, a global nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting and advancing women in engineering and technology. Founded in 1950, SWE works to empower women through scholarships, mentorship, professional development, networking, and outreach programs, while promoting diversity and inclusion in the engineering profession worldwide.
What are Chapters in SWE?
In SWE, chapters are local groups of the Society of Women Engineers that operate at universities, colleges, or within geographic regions. These chapters act as the grassroots units of SWE, organizing activities such as technical workshops, mentoring, outreach to schools, networking events, leadership training, and community service. Chapters help members connect locally while staying aligned with SWE’s global mission of advancing women in engineering and technology.
What SWE Student Chapter?
An SWE Student Chapter is a college- or university-based chapter of the Society of Women Engineers formed by students enrolled in engineering or technology programs. It provides a platform for students to develop technical skills, leadership experience, and professional networks through workshops, mentorship, outreach activities, competitions, and industry interactions. SWE Student Chapters also encourage young women to pursue and persist in engineering careers while connecting them to the larger global SWE community.
What SWE professional Chapter?
An SWE Professional Chapter is a regional, city- or industry-based chapter of the Society of Women Engineers made up of working professionals in engineering, technology, and related fields. It supports career growth through networking events, technical talks, leadership development, mentoring, and community outreach, while also advocating for diversity and inclusion in the engineering workforce.
